SHERMAN, Texas -- It's a story of firsts for one Texoma family and the doctor who delivered the region's first baby of 2019.

"I always wanted a daughter, and God brought me one," said proud dad Henry Patterson Jr.

Patricia Patterson arrived at 10:19 a.m. New Year's Day at Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center. At 18 inches long and weighing only six pounds, Patricia is the first girl for the Patterson family.

"It's a blessing from the man upstairs," said Patterson. "He knew this day was going to happen; we didn't know it, but I'm just glad that it did happen."

At less than a day old, baby Patricia has a meaningful connection between the doctor who helped bring her into the world and the mother who gave birth to her.

"I'm always happy to deliver any baby," said Dr. Anthony Abrantes. "When it's a repeat or a generation to the next generation, it always makes it a little more special."

For Abrantes, who's been a physician at Wilson N. Jones for 35 years, the newborn serves as another first.

"In my time here in this community, I just haven't had the opportunity to deliver the first baby of the new year -- until now.," he said.

The new birth is also special for Abrantes. He helped deliver Patricia's mother, Brittanya Woodberry, and her son as well.

"Still having fun doing it," said Abrantes. "Just love doing it and a New Year's baby is just a little plus."

For the family of five, it's something to be thankful for this holiday.

"I'd rather be here than anywhere else," said Patterson. "He brought us all together for a reason."
