Two fishermen drown in McCurtain County

McCURTAIN COUNTY, Okla. -- Two Idabel men died after their fishing boat was swamped Sunday afternoon on a private lake in the Goodwater community.

The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety said Kenny Mays who was 54-years-old and Lapatrick Van, 41-years-old, had been aboard an aluminum boat on the lake 14 miles east of Idabel when both went into the water. Neither man was wearing a life jacket.

Their bodies were recovered Monday morning by the Idabel Fire Department in about 8 feet of water.

The McCurtain County Sheriff's Office and firefighters from Broken Bow, Idabel, Garvin, Haworth and Tom assisted in the recovery operation.
