PARIS, Texas -- Another new industry is coming to Texoma, and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was on hand Monday afternoon to celebrate jobs for Lamar County.

American SpiralWeld Pipe Company broke ground for a $60 million facility at the site of the former Superior Switch Company at Paris Industrial Park that will create more than 60 full-time positions, with the potential for future expansion to 100 employees.

"We as a nation and we as a state want to see more manufacturing come to our local areas -- especially manufacturing of steel-based products that we need so much," the governor said.

The 100-acre plant facility, expected to open in the spring of 2020, will process flat-rolled steel coil into steel pipe, with most of its production intended for use within a 500-mile radius of Paris.

"We understand that American is going to pay on average around $50,000 a year," said Paris Economic Development Corporation executive director Michael Paris. "When you add that up times 60 employees, you're looking at well over $3 million of annual payroll each year."

The City of Paris offered a 10-year tax abatement program for Alabama-based ASWP to help seal the deal. The company is getting more than $3.6 million of total incentives from the city, Lamar County, and the PEDC.

Michael Paris said this project heralds additional growth for Lamar County.

"Think of the motivation it gives us to look for other businesses... to take our businesses and make them thrive even more," he said. "It's just huge in the way it helps us emotionally, but also incentive-wise."
