GUNTER, TX - "We have been able to watch film on them for the last three years and it is pretty much the same thing and we are ready to get another shot at them and I am sure they are ready to get another shot at us," said Gunter senior slot receiver Dylan Jantz.
After three years of studying tape of Canadian in anticipation of facing them for the third straight year in the state semifinal, one thing the Tiger head coach Jake Fieszel knows for sure about the Wildcats, is they are exceptionally talented.
"When you think about great programs in the state of Texas, Canadian is right up there with all the great programs in the state of Texas, so it is no surprise to me that they are in that position and we are fortunate enough to be right there," said Gunter head coach Jake Fieszel.
With a win over Canadian Friday night Gunter would reach the state championship for the third straight year, but they are not thinking about Jerry World just yet.
"It would be an amazing feeling, but like you said we have to focus on this week before we get there and all of our focus is on now and Canadian and we have to get a win this week to get to next week," said Jantz.
While there will be many similarities Friday to the last two state semifinals, including the names on the front of the jerseys, one thing that will be different is the level of experience and the Tigers are hoping to take advantage of that.
"The biggest difference is confidence, when we went in to our first state semifinal against Canadian we had no idea what it was like to be this far and we had never been past the third round, but now that this is our third year in a row everybody feels like we have another bit of confidence on our side, that we have been in this situation and I feel like we are ready to go even more than we usually are," said Jantz.
