Truck driver killed in Garvin County crash
GARVIN COUNTY, Okla. -- A Texas truck driver was killed Monday morning in a fiery crash involving two 18-wheelers on Interstate 35 near Wynnewood.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said a big rig driven by a man identified as 61-year-old Carlos A. Escoto was headed northbound on the freeway when he slammed into the back of another truck that was stopped on the shoulder near the intersection with State Highway 29.
Both trucks erupted in flames. Escoto, from Garland, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle, Christopher J. McCaleb, 24, of Mesquite Texas, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Ardmore for treatment and later released.
Northbound traffic on the interstate highway was detoured following the 7:30 a.m. wreck. By midafternoon, one northbound lane was reopened.
