SHERMAN, Texas -- There's big progress being made at Sherman's water plant.

After a year-and-a-half of work, construction and electrical crews are in the home stretch for a project which will double the amount of water processed from Lake Texoma to 20 million gallons daily -- that's 7,000 gallons a minute.

The plant provides several rounds of filtration before it is piped to Sherman homes and businesses.

The addition supplements existing water treatment systems, but will one day replace what's the current facility.

"Everyone is seeing the growth in Sherman is coming; it's already rolling into town," said water systems manager Jim Cross. "We need to be prepared to supply our industries and our residents with additional water."

Cross added that users shouldn't see any visible difference in the quality of the water.

The total cost of this project is close to $30 million. The new water system should be up and running by the first part of next year.
