SHERMAN, Texas -- "It's beyond words to say how exciting this is to be able top open up a new station here in Sherman," said Sherman Fire-Rescue Chief Danny Jones.

The uncoupling of a hose was used to commemorate the new facility.

Fire Station No. 4 is located on Northgate Drive in Progress Park, replacing the former Blalock station at FM 1417 and U.S. 75.

It's the perfect location to get around south Sherman, and to offer access to the city's new high school now under construction nearby.

"This station is strategically located in a high-growth corridor to be able to service not only the neighborhoods behind 1417, but also the new high school and our industrial parks as well" said Sherman Mayor David Plyler.

"We needed another station in the general vicinity, and this was a good spot" said Chief Jones.

Construction started just six months ago, and Mayor Plyler said it's the city's first new fire station in 30 years.

"It's new, it's modern ... as you can see, it's got a lot of space, a lot of new amenities. It's technology changes, equipment changes," Plyler said.

Chief Jones said the best part was to see the firefighters' hard work pay off.

"A lot of them have just heard about this and been able to come by and just see parts of it as it was being built, but it but now that it's finally completed, just the opportunity for them to come by and see it and see how great it is ... it means a lot," Jones said.
