ARDMORE, Okla. -- An Ardmore man is behind bars after police said he shot a woman on Wednesday evening.

Investigators said 26-year-old Anthony Miller shot the victim just under her chin at a residents on D Street Southeast. First responders found her crawling on a lawn.

Before the victim was airlifted to an Oklahoma City hospital for treatment, she was able to identify her assailant, who had left the scene.

"We're not sure if it's because he intentionally shot her, or whether it was an accidental shooting and he just got nervous and fled," Ardmore police spokesman Capt. Keith Ingle said.

Neighbor Sue Klassen said she was surprised to learn about the crime.

"The police will drive by, but there hasn't been any activity like this," she said. "It's all been pretty quiet as a rule."

Anthony Miller ended up turning himself in.

"It could've been avoided by a convicted felon not being in possession of a firearm," Ingle said. "It's just sad that somebody who knows they're not supposed to have one had one, and then this happens."

Miller is being charged with possession of a firearm after a felony conviction, but could face additional charges.

"I'm not fearful of anything because of this one incident," Klassen said. "Since I've been here for four years, it's the only incident that we've really had like that."
