SHERMAN, Texas -- Tulsa-based QuikTrip opened its first convenience store in Grayson County, Texas, on Thursday morning.
The food-and-fuel facility is at the southwest corner of U.S. 75 and FM 691, on the Sherman-Denison border and across the highway from Texoma Medical Center.
"My husband joked with me and said that I needed to camp out here, because I could hardly wait for them to open!" gushed customer Debbie Campbell.
This QT location features a kitchen with fresh-made sandwiches, pizzas, pretzels, and coffee drinks, along with the usual assortment of candy, snack foods and refreshments.
As QuikTrip celebrated its grand opening, Carl Bilderback celebrated his 83rd birthday. His daughter said he was craving a milkshake.
The opening sparked a mini gas price war. After QT offered a gallon of regular for $2.39, several competitors in Sherman and Denison matched it.
"This is a really big thing for the Sherman and Denison area," Campbell said. "They're always clean; they're always happy; they are a great company to come to this area."
Denison's first Starbucks coffee shop is poised to open across the street in the near future.
QuikTrip operates more than 750 locations in the Southwest, Midwest and Southern United States.
