DURANT, Okla. - Following Southeastern's 21-0 victory over 15th-ranked Southern Arkansas on Saturday cornerback Daquawn Brown and punter Joel Carlos haver earned Great American Conference Player of the Week honors.
Brown was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week, While Carlos took home the Special Teams Player of the Week honor.
Brown, a native of Los Angeles, Calif., won the award after spearing the defense to its second shutout of the season, posting five tackles and a league-best five pass breakups.
He spent most of the day squared off with SAU's Karonce Higgins who was the GAC's top-ranked receiver coming into the contest, holding him to three catches for 16 yards on the day.
Carlos, a senior from Carrollton, Texas, punted six times in the Storm win, landing three of the six punts inside the 20-yard line. His long punt, 72 yards, came in the second quarter. In addition, the Muleriders did not register a single return yard on any of his six kicks.
He would also beautifully executed a sky kick which was mishandled by an SAU up-man and SE recovered, while adding a 3-for-3 effort on PAT's.
Southeastern will return to action on Oct. 20 with a 2 p.m. road matchup against Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Ark.
