BONHAM, Texas -- Friends and family members gathered at Bonham Trade Days Saturday to remember the life of Petty Officer Billy Eugene Morrow,  a U.S. Navy veteran.

He died last month at the age of 75.

Morrow's wife was presented with a United States flag by Texoma's Heroes founder Billy Teague to honor Morrow's dedication and service to the country.

In attendance was fellow Texoma Hero and veteran Captain Jerry Ford.

"He believed in two things and you know what they were? God and his country," Ford said.

Morrow's friends said his humble attitude and servant heart went beyond his country, dedicating much of his time giving back to the community.

"He did a lot of things; whether it was helping someone out with a donation or whatever he could do, he was just that type of gentlemen," Teague said.

The ceremony prompted Ford to remember the first time he met Morrow, when Ford was trying to buy some flags.

"I reached into my pocket to pull out my wallet and asked how much I owed him," Ford recalled. "But Morrow said, 'I already paid him by picking up the flags.'"

From that moment, Ford and Morrow became good friends, always talking about their family and time overseas.

"We talked about that a couple of times and he said, 'Well, you know the bombs and the fuses in the Army are different from the ones in the Navy," Ford said.

Now, Ford not only shares beloved memories, but also the same title, as both are now recognized as Texoma Heroes.

"We had the same heart and you know what that heart is," said Ford. "A heart for America."
