Sherman doctor pleads guilty to multiple charges

SHERMAN, Texas -- A Sherman doctor pleaded guilty Friday to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances and health care fraud.

Howard Greg Diamond faced up to life in prison. At his Friday plea hearing, he agreed to a sentence of 20 years in federal prison.

Federal prosecutors say; beginning in 2010, Diamond conspired with others to write unnecessary prescriptions for highly addictive drugs like fentanyl, hydrocodone, and morphine.

The prescriptions resulted in seven deaths from 2012 to 2016, including one in McKinney. The other deaths occurred Abilene, Sulphur Springs and four Oklahoma cities.
