Sherman Breaks Ground On New High School

SHERMAN, TX - "This is the biggest one we've had yet" said Sherman Mayor David Plyler.

A big celebration for a project that's been in the works for close to 3 years.

Sherman High School broke ground on their new high school site.

"Its great to kick off this process for the new school because it's going to be great", said junior Nick Estes.

The new high school will be on a 100 acre site off of F.M.1417 and OB Groner Rd.

By the time the doors open it'll be able to hold 2,600 students.

"We're preparing ourselves for the growth that we see we're already exceeding capacity at our high school right now a high school of 1400 capacity for students at we have over 1900 students there" said Assistant Superintendent Tyson Bennett.

A lot of work went into the plans for the new high school. Some students got the chance to pitch in a help.

"The pride walk was one thing that was implemented in the design for the new school" said Estes.

That pride walk will be a place for the community to gather, once the new school is finished.

"You know its all about the community .. We wouldn't be here if it wasn't for our community supporting public schools and supporting preparing for our growth" said Bennett.

That growth is something the city of Sherman has gotten used to over the past 3 years.

"Spurring the growth out in this area of town .. Its just going to be phenomenal" said Mayor Plyler.

Construction is set to be complete in August of 2020.
