DENISON, Texas -- In a new effort to boost tourism, the Denison Area Chamber of Commerce is letting the city assume responsibility for promoting Grayson County's second biggest community.

"Denison is growing and changing, and there's new opportunity for us to attract tourists here," said City Manager Jud Rex, who said he's planning to portray his city as a great place to live and to visit.

"With Texoma Health Foundation Park, with downtown, with the lake, Lake Texoma, we have a lot of assets here that I think we can better market to bring more tourists to Denison."

To do that, the city created a new Convention and Visitors Bureau board with representatives from every industry. Denison is also looking to hire a marketing and tourism director who will work closely with the Chamber of Commerce and Denison Main Street Inc. to support all events and activities while creating new opportunities as well.

"Whether it's new festivals or activities or tweaking some of our existing ones, I fully expect that as we get further down the road we'll see some changes to how we attract tourists to Denison," Rex said.
