DURANT, Okla. -- The Durant Daily Democrat issued an apology after the home page of its Saturday paper was published with an altered Bible quote.

The quote, attributed to 1 John 5:13-14, changed a reference to the "Son of God" to "Son of the Devil" and the word "God" to "All Mighty Satan."

The paper said its web-based publishing system had been "hacked" by a person who was able to manipulate some information in Saturday's edition.

"The Durant Democrat would never intentionally publish such an affront to its community," the paper said in a statement posted to its Facebook page. "We want to assure our neighbors and friends that we are working not only to determine the source of this vile act but also to ensure it never happens again."
