Pauls Valley hospital appeals for donations

Posted: Updated:

PAULS VALLEY, Okla. -- The hospital now known as Pauls Valley Regional Medical Center continues its struggle to remain a vital source of health care in Garvin County.

Last week, the City Council voted to keep the facility operating under new management by Alliance Health Partners Oklahoma, but funding remains a critical problem.

The problem: A temporary restraining order.

"At this point the hospital can't use the funds that they're earning by taking care of patients to continue to operate the hospital," said Alliance Health CEO Frank Avignone.

There's a Tuesday deadline to put up $500,000 needed to pay the bills and its 130 employees.

"For the most part, every one of them has said, 'I'm not going anywhere until they drag me out of here and lock the doors,'" Avignone said.

Alliance Health established a Save Pauls Valley Hospital GoFundMe page with a $2 million goal. They encourage business and individuals to donate whatever they can to the hospital's foundation. All contributions are tax deductible.

"We need help from the community so we can get that $500,000 in the bank by Tuesday morning, we can make payroll, and we can pay the benefits for the employees," Avignone said. "The extra $1.5 million will go toward continuing operations, bringing the new doctors in."

The hospital is holding an event at 2 p.m. Sunday to provide the public with an update.

PVRMC is the only general hospital in Garvin County; the nearest facilities are in Arbuckle and Purcell, each about 30 minutes away.
