ADA, Okla. -- A woman's whispered plea for help led to the arrest of a man who had allegedly been holding her against her will for several days, Ada police said Wednesday.

The 28-year-old woman had been walking near Rosedale Cemetery when a man asked if she needed a ride. She got in the car thinking she was going to a friend's house.

"She realized that they weren't going to that house, and what ensued was several days of horror for this young woman," Ada public information director Lisa Bratcher said.

James Jordanoff, 34, was arrested Tuesday evening after the woman relayed her concern to a clerk at the Dollar General store in the 200 block of West Main Street. She was with Jordanoff at the time.

"The clerk noticed the man was being aggressive towards the woman and she had bruising on her face," Bratcher said. "As they were leaving, the woman mouthed to the clerk: 'Help me! Help me!'"

The woman returned to the store a short time later without the suspect and directed police to an apartment in the 400 block of West 10th Street.

Jordanoff was captured after attempting to flee on foot, police said. He is facing kidnapping, rape, assault, and other charges and is being held without bond.

Bratcher urges anyone who sees a situation that just doesn't look right to call 911.

"Just report it and we'll be happy to check it out," she said. "We want to make sure people are safe in the community."
