ARDMORE, Okla. From 12th Street to downtown, you don't have to go far to see a new business going up in Ardmore.

Texas developer Burk Collins is getting the credit for several additional merchants being added to the roster at the Market Street at Ardmore shopping center.

"It's a $25 million development," said Assistant City Manager Kevin Boatright. "It's going to located on 12th street here in Ardmore, so we're really excited about it."

It's building on the growth the city has already experienced. Boatright believes this is because Ardmore is a place where businesses can thrive.

"Sometimes other retail establishments will take notice and they say, 'Hey, maybe we need to look. They're in there in Ardmore and having success, then that may be a place we need to consider,'" Boatright said.

The new shopping center also means more opportunities for Ardmoreites to stay in town.

"I think it will keep shoppers local instead of having to drive to Oklahoma City or Dallas, so I think it's a good project," Ardmore resident John Kriet said.

Academy Sports will be the center's anchor store, with several restaurants included in the project, and Boatright said there are already plans for expansion.

"This will be phase one. There are a couple other large companies that they're trying to negotiate with now that may come at a later phase," he said.

Groundbreaking is set for next Wednesday, with construction expected to be complete by spring.
