DENISON, Texas -- Reynaldo Cruz of Denison was sentenced to 45 years in prison Thursday for gunshot death of Daniel Hernandez in April.

According to evidence presented during the case, Hernandez had been in a relationship with Cruz' estranged wife.

Hernandez was found dead in the 800 block of West Monterey Street on April 29. He had been shot multiple times.

Cruz pleaded guilty on Thursday in the court of Judge James Fallon.

"This was a love triangle gone horribly wrong," District Attorney Brett Smith said in a written statement. "Cruz showed no remorse, and even told Detective [John] Watt if he had to do it over again, he would have done the same."

Cruz must serve at least half of his sentence. He will be deported from the United States upon release due to his current immigration status.
