Sherman after-school program feeds mind and body
SHERMAN, Texas -- The Sherman Independent School District has something new for kids participating in after-school programs this year.
Dinner.
"The kids love it," said Sory Elementary School Principal Steven Traw. "It's a healthy meal, and they have healthy choices."
He said participation is at a high for the kindergarten through fifth grade students in the Adventures After School program, and the new dinner program benefits his students.
"It helps just to keep them energized, because part of the program -- we do tutoring and they do homework -- and that's what helps to kind of fuel them and make sure they're optimizing their brain power," Traw said.
And with that energy comes more productivity.
"I think they're being a little more productive as far as being ready to do their homework and their tutoring and their intention and to get more things done," the principal said.
In addition to getting things done inside the classroom Sherman ISD said its after-school meal program will also help them promote a healthy lifestyle.
The Adventures program is available Monday through Friday from 3:15 to 5:45 p.m. It costs $25 per week.
