POTTSBORO, TX. -- The Pottsboro Cardinals are back and reloaded for the 2018 season.
"We've got a lot of guys that can play on both sides of the ball, and we have a lot of guys that are going to play offensively and defensively," Pottsboro Head Coach Matt Poe said. "We're trying to restructure our defense to get more guys on the field. So, we are excited about those things."
"The first couple of days I feel like we've done pretty good," Pottsboro senior Will Cates said. "We're nowhere near where we want to be, but I feel like we are going to get there."
The Cardinals move over to district 5 this season, with some new faces like Commerce, Lone Oak and Rains.
"It's kind of exciting for us to get to play someone different," Poe said. "In the last few years we have played the same people and we know each other really well. This is something new and exciting."
"It's definitely going to be different, but I'm looking forward to the challenge and I think we'll do pretty decent," Cates said.
But also some familiar rivals, including Bonham, Howe and Van Alstyne.
"We know most of the guys over there," Pottsboro Senior Brandon Hubert said. "Some of them are friends, some are enemies, but it's all fun."
There will be a new quarterback for the Cards this season and the competition is in full swing.
"I feel like we have three guys that can really play," Poe said. "One of them will separate themselves in the next week or so."
The Cardinals will also have a lot of seniors, hungry for more trophies.
"Win the district championship and make the farthest run in the playoffs we can," Cates said.
