TIOGA, Texas -- A new high school is almost ready for its debut in Tioga, a fast-growing town in the southwest corner of Grayson County.

"It's exciting," said Tioga Secondary Principal Erica Waller. "It's something that's been planned for a long time. It's a long time coming for our community and our kids."

Tioga Independent School District Superintendent Charles Holloway said the high school has been sharing a campus with the middle and elementary schools. But that building was quickly becoming too small for the growing number of students.

"We started about six years ago with 124 kids, and we're getting close to 700 this year," he said. "We knew that it had to grow to survive; we just weren't quite prepared for the rapid growth we've seen the last three or four years."

The new Tioga High School has been in the works for two years, but construction only took 10 months.

Now all that's left is setting up desks before students start school next week.

"We're super excited to have such a nice facility four our kiddos," Holloway said, adding that this will be Tioga's first standalone high school since 1961, and that there will be plenty of room for additional growth.

"Everyone has their own classroom. Everyone can do their own thing and not have to worry about somebody coming in and using their classroom for two or three periods a day," Holloway said. "It's a win-win situation for everyone, as far as I'm concerned."
