SHERMAN, Texas -- Paving the way for a future interstate highway in Grayson County, county commissioners have approved funding for a major project.

The $10 million bond decision will allocate money for work at the busy tri-level interchange of U.S. 75 and U.S. 82 in Sherman.

The Texas Department of Transportation and the Sherman-Denison Metropolitan Planning Organization will match those bonds up to $172 million.

The improvements will be the first steps in upgrading U.S. 75 in Grayson County meet the requirements of a future interstate highway.

Other upgrades being planned for U.S. 75 include widening the freeway to six lanes through Sherman and into Denison.

A public meeting on the project is tentatively set for September, with initial construction expected to get underway about a year later.
