ARDMORE, Okla. -- The mother of a three-year-old who was mauled by a dog in Ardmore last month has been charged with felony child neglect.

Police said 25-year-old Ashley Bock could have helped prevent the attack.

According to investigators, Bock was at a house in the 1100 block C Street SE on July 8 when a pit bull bit her daughter's face. Police later learned that Bock knew how dangerous the dog had been in the past.

"She not only knew the dog was aggressive and had bitten at least one adult prior to this child being bitten, but the child had been knocked down by this dog in the past as well," police spokesman Sgt. Brice Woolly said.

Police said they have reason to believe that Bock was at the house where the dog attack occurred was to buy methamphetamine.

She was arrested and jailed on Saturday and freed Monday after posting a $10,000 bond.

As for the child, she is recovering from her wounds, and is in much better condition than had been expected.

"It looks like, from what I've seen, that she's going to recover and not have any severe issues with this, other than possibly a scar," Woolly said.

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services placed the child in the care of relatives.
