The National Weather Service has expanded an Excessive Heat Warning to cover all Texoma counties.

The alert will continue through 7 p.m. Sunday as high temperatures are forecast to run as high as 108 degrees, with heat index readings reaching 115.

With the broiling sun comes the danger of heat-related illnesses. Anyone spending time outdoors is advised to drink water, avoid strenuous activities and stay in the shade as much as possible.

Homeowners and businesses were urged to conserve electricity on Thursday.

The peak demand on summer days with triple-digit temperatures is typically between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., when air conditioners are running full tilt.

Users are urged to set the thermostat as high as tolerable and to put off doing the laundry or using electric stoves and ranges during those hours to reduce the possibility of brownouts or blackouts.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which operates the grid that covers most of the state, said power demand  between 3 and 4 p.m. Wednesday broke a record.

Sherman police say our triple-digit temperatures may have already claimed one life.

On Monday afternoon, officers answered the call for help about a man acting "erratically" along East College Street. They found Andrawes Coco, 22, unresponsive.

Police say all indications point to the cause being heat exposure but they're awaiting autopsy results. The National Weather Service said Monday's high temperature in Sherman was 101.
