ARDMORE, Okla. -- As temperatures rise to dangerous triple-digit levels, it's important to stay cool.

But if your air conditioner isn't working, or it's not easy for you to get out of the heat, the City of Ardmore has a solution: Cool zones.

"Sometimes when you start dealing with those who are elderly or those that may have specific illnesses or medical conditions that would make dealing with the heat worse, it becomes very critical," said Assistant City Manager Kevin Boatright.

Ardmore has offered cool zones for several years. Boatright said it's the town's job to protect citizens.

"This time of year, specifically here in southern Oklahoma where the temperatures are gonna be pushing triple digits, it's very important that we try to make facilities available," he said.

The cool zones include the Ardmore Public Library, the Shops at Ardmore, and the Salvation Army of Ardmore.

"I think that people who really do not have a another option, it means the world to them," Boatright said. "I think it's something that's very much needed."

And he added that the cool zones will remain available as long as they are necessary.
