ARDMORE, Okla. -- There are 13 parks in the City of Ardmore.

"There is a park almost within walking distance of everybody in Ardmore," boasted the city's Parks and Recreation director Teresa Ervin.

During July, every one of those parks will be celebrated during National Park and Recreation Month.

"All over the nation we celebrate that month... what the benefits are that we can bring to a community," Ervin said. "Ardmore is no different than that."

She said each park brings many benefits to the community, from higher property values to a place to exercise.

"You of course don't want to walk when it's 110 degrees like we get in Oklahoma, but come early and late," Ervin said. "Physical fitness is an issue for Oklahoma as a state, so the parks that we have are a great outlet."

Improvements are on the way for Ardmore parks, including a new clubhouse that Ervin said wouldn't be possible without the support from the city.

"Our commissioners believe in the quality of life that parks and recreation can offer. They're very supportive of that, and we're blessed to have them," she said. "We're so grateful for the citizens in Ardmore; they're always kind and very supportive."

There will be a parks celebration on July 21 at the Ardmore Community Water Park, where the first 50 guests will receive a package with free food and drink items.
