ARDMORE, Okla. -- On this 4th of July, many Texomans were taking advantage of the great weather.

People celebrated the birth of our nation in a variety of ways -- whether it be time at the lake, barbecues, or just spending time with loved ones.

Others, like Lake Murray Water Sports employee Bryce Smith, watched other having fun.

"We're not really missing out on much," he said. "It would be nice to get out on a boat or something, but helping people out and letting them have a good time is just as good to me."

One family came all way from Florida to Oklahoma's oldest state park to see relatives. However, they did not overlook the true meaning of Independence Day.

"The people that have fought for our country, they've lost their lives," said Erin Jacobs. "The ones that have to deal with the struggles of coming back and everything and the gratefulness that we get to live here."

The Jacobs family and many others planned to spend all day on the water, and they'll be in place to catch Lake Murray's fireworks show, which starts just after sunset and is open to the public.
