DURANT, Okla. -- Two disabled veterans are embarking on a statewide trek across Oklahoma for a good cause.

Anthony Pate and his uncle Drew Pate -- both Marines -- will start Wednesday morning in Muldrow on the state's eastern border. They plan to march 50 miles every day until they reach Sweetwater.

Along the way, they will be raising money for Wounded Veterans of Oklahoma and letting people they meet know more about the organization.

"At first, I was pretty excited about it," Anthony Pate said. "It was a pretty neat deal, and -- I think -- borderline crazy enough that I think it will draw the attention of many, and that's the goal: To bring awareness to organizations like Wounded Veterans of Oklahoma."

The entire journey will be about 300 miles and will take an estimated six days to complete.

"The fact that we are going to be doing this in combat packs -- taking only what we can carry -- is symbolic of the service that we did," Pate said.

He suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, so these miles will be meaningful.

"There were veterans who came before me, who helped me settle back in to civilian life," Pate said. "I feel like it is my duty to do the same for this next generation of combat vets."
