DODGE CITY, Kan. (KAKE) -

Authorities have charged an 18-year-old Dodge City man for the alleged shooting death of a woman at a local motel.

Deputies were called at around 10:30 a.m. Sunday to a possible homicide at the Super 8 motel at 1708 West Wyatt Earp Blvd. Dodge City police said on Facebook that the 27-year-old woman had been shot once in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family members identified the victim as Shantel Rose Brungardt (Winkler), of Howell.

Boston Cole Boswell was arrested and charged Monday with first-degree murder and theft of a firearm, the Dodge City Globe reports. He is being held on $500,000 cash bond.

Brungardt's father, Anthony, says the single mother of three loved her children.

"She loved her babies more than anything in the world. She took such good care of them and they loved her so much," he said.

Her stepmother says Brungardt loved horses, had many friends and lit up a room.

"We're going to do everything we can to make sure they [her children] have a beautiful life. and a life that Rose had promised them," Carrie Ann Brungardt said.

The family has created a gofundme page to help pay for the children's expenses.

Dodge City Police continue to investigate the homicide and are asking anyone with information to call them.
