SHERMAN, Texas -- The Sherman Independent School District is taking the first steps in the design of a new high school.

Students, staff, teachers, and taxpayers voiced their opinions Wednesday about what features they want to see in the building that will replace the current high school.

On the top of their list: Natural lighting, wide halls, and a noticeable entrance.

"I think the energy of having a beautiful brand new building, it's infectious," said teacher Anthony Hartman. "The kids will have pride every day coming to school and driving up to the building, and that will affect everyone."

The district said the design will be finalized by April.
