Big jackpot fuels Powerball fever

DENISON, Texas -- Wednesday night's Powerball jackpot is up to $460 million, and potential winners were lining up at convenience stores across Texoma to take a chance on a ticket to Easy Street.

You should know, however, that the odds of actually winning the top prize are estimated to be one-in-292 million. You have a better chance of getting struck by lighting -- twice -- than to win the Powerball prize.

Regardless, the lines were steady all day at Lone Star Ski and Tackle in Denison.

The next Mega Millions drawing is Friday, and because no one won the top prize in that lottery on Tuesday, its jackpot has soared to $418 million.

Lynn Nelson said if she won Wednesday's Powerball prize, she'd probably use it to benefit charities and her kids. "I couldn't spend that much money," she said.

"I would take care of my children, my grandchildren and great-grandchildren," Matthew Wilson said. "I would help a lot of people in my community and give these people a lot of money, because they've been helping me out a lot."

Powerball tickets will be on sale until 9 p.m. Wednesday. The drawing is shortly after 10 p.m.
