Bone-chilling temperatures with below-zero wind chill readings were in the forecast for New Year's Eve night as an Arctic air mass settles in over Texoma.

Air temperatures will be in the teens, but the wind will multiply the impact to make it feel much, much colder as the region welcomes 2018.

"The cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin," the National Weather Service said.

All the usual recommendations apply: Be sure to provide shelter for pets and animals, insulate outdoor faucets, and let water drip from indoor faucets to prevent frozen pipes.

On Sunday morning, light flurries were evident along U.S. 75 in Sherman; the weather service said freezing drizzle and light snow could lead to light icing on bridges and overpasses. Motorists are warned to be alert.

First Methodist Church of Ardmore and Milo Baptist Church in Springer were among several that canceled Sunday services because of the weather.

KTEN will keep up with the latest developments on the air and on our Twitter feed.
