With temperatures poised to plunge into the teens across Texoma, make sure your vehicles and home are winterized.

Be sure to insulate exterior pipes and spigots, and let interior faucets drip when the mercury plummets to keep pipes from freezing.

And always check tire pressure and car batteries so you don't end up stranded.

"It's stuff that literally takes minutes, but can save you hours on the side of the road," said Steve Garner of Red River Ford. "We know it's unsafe to have a blowout. These aren't things that usually pop up, so make sure you're looking for the signs."

And Ardmore police warn that you should never leave your vehicle running unattended -- no matter how cold it gets. A car with the key in the ignition is just too tempting for thieves.

"If you have the remote start where you can start it from inside your home, it's still secure," police spokesman Capt. Keith Ingle added.

In some cities, you can be fined if police find your car is running without anyone there.

KTEN's Carley Banks reported from Durant; McKenna Eubank reported from Ardmore.
