SHERMAN, Texas -- A Denison man charged with aggravated assault has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Justin Grant was accused of attacking his girlfriend with a knife after she was severely beaten.

Denison police said she was covered in blood from head-to-toe when they arrived at the scene back last July.

"Mr. Grant has a history of abusing women," said Grayson County Assistant District Attorney Brett Smith. "I don't know how else to describe it, but he's just a violent person. He tends to pick on people that are weaker than himself, and he's the type of person we need out of Grayson County... and now he will be gone for a long time."

Smith said Grant, 28, must serve at least a decade behind bars before parole becomes an option.
