Durant police standoff ends without incident

Posted: Updated:

DURANT, Okla. -- Some homes were evacuated in a Durant neighborhood Wednesday night after a man with a gun locked himself inside his home.

Police said they responded to a welfare check on Sunny Meadows Drive after the man threatened to kill himself while speaking to someone on the phone.

When police arrived, the man shut the door and locked himself in.

Officers evacuated residents nearby as a precaution.

"After maintaining a good line of communication it was determined the subject did not intend on hurting himself or anyone else, so officers left the scene," police said in a written statement.

The man will not be facing any charges at this time.
