DENISON, Texas -- The City of Denison now says Schulman's Movie Bowl Grille will not be coming to town in the near future.

In September, Mark Schulman announced that he would bring his entertainment complex to Denison.

A month later, he announced that Sherman would be getting a facility that incorporates a cinema, bowling alley, arcade and restaurant.

But with a similar venue called HeyDay projected to open at The Shops at Gateway Village in Denison about a year from now, the city believes the area cannot support both entertainment options.

"We've done a lot of research over the last couple of years with our economic development team, and all the data they've got says our market simply cannot support more than one entertainment venue right now," said City Manager Jud Rex. "So talking about one in Sherman and one in Denison and HeyDay -- which the city is moving forward with as well -- it's a little too much."

HeyDay does not offer movie theaters.

City staffers say they're still set to move forward with Mark Shulman's plan for retail and restaurant development at the corner of Crawford Street and U.S. 75.
