DURANT, Okla. -- The Durant City Council voted to censure one of its on at a special meeting Tuesday evening.

Four members of the five-member body took action against Oden Grube, who represents Ward 2, following criticism of her allegedly outspoken comments about her colleagues on social media.

"I am merely the latest voice that the city is trying to silence, standing behind brave city employees who've lost their jobs, been suspended or demoted," Grube said in her own defense.

It all started on November 2, when Oden posted a letter she received from City Manager Tim Rundel, who demanded that she cease and desist from posting discrediting things about him on social media.

Most of Oden's posts were on the Facebook group Concerned Residents Against Misrepresentation and Mismanagement, which she originally started as a way for people to voice their thoughts and concerns about the city.

Later that same night, Oden posted again on the page, telling members of the closed group that Mayor Jerry Tomlinson had removed her from the Durant Industrial Authority Board. Tomlinson said the decision followed a long investigation and interviews of employees conducted by the Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group.

"A hostile work environment was not from city management," the mayor said. "These employees that were interviewed had that feeling from Mrs. Grube's social media postings some few months ago."

The city attorney explained that censuring is not the same as censorship, and that Grube will still be able to sit and vote on Council matters. However, the resolution may prevent her from serving on authorities, boards, committees and commissions as a Council member.

"As far as I'm concerned, it's all a big joke," Grube said.
