DAVIS, Okla. -- Davis police are are asking for the public's help to solve a burglary at the First Baptist Church.

"This just reinforces our message from Sunday that our battle with evil is real," the church said in a Facebook post detailing the break-in.

Police said the burglar gained access through an upstairs window some time between 8 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday.

"From what I can tell, they went up a stairwell, went over a guardrail, onto the roof, and from there they located the window," said police spokesman Lt. Kevin English.

Officials are still investigating what was stolen, but they say the alleged burglar appears to have gone through nearly every room in the church and then used a shopping cart to leave the building.

Photos posted by the church showed a desk in disarray, a cash box opened and a lock that was broken.

"They went through many of the different office buildings, stole some items, and exited through one of the downstairs doors," English said.

But police have little evidence to investigate, so they're asking for the public's help in finding out whoever did this.

"Any idea or any information pertaining this burglary, they can contact the Davis Police Department, they can ask for my cell or any of the officers on duty.  They should be aware of where to get their information to," English said.  The department's phone number is 580-369-3333.

On Facebook, First Baptist Church asked for prayers.

The one thing these people needed the most, unfortunately, they didn’t touch: The Holy Word of God.
