ARDMORE, Okla. -- Flu season in Texoma starts in October. But with winter around the corner, patients have a new option.

The Mercy Convenient Care clinic at 1020 North Commerce Street is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

"It provides convenience," said Dr. Aaron Spells. "In a fast-paced life -- which everybody has -- everyone is busy and crunched for time."

When cold symptoms strike, it can often be difficult to make an appointment.

"We work, we have lives, by the time we get home and our kids tell us that they're sick it's 6 or 7 o'clock and your physician's office is generally closed," said Mercy Convenient Care patient Larissa Freeman. "Having a facility that you can bring your kiddos to or bring yourself into that you that you don't have to make an appointment is super-amazing."

Dr. Spells said another benefit is that since the clinic is part of Mercy Hospital, all past medical records can be accessed if you've used Mercy before.

"Citizens in southern Oklahoma have one or some kind of provider that's integrated with the Mercy system," Spells said. "The medical records, charts, notes... everything is interconnected."

Spells also said cold and flu symptoms aren't the only reasons to drop in.

"You sprained your ankle; your kid's got a sore throat; you've got a headache," he said... anything that isn't life-threatening can be handled here, without the wait you'd face at the emergency room.

Mercy says patients can expect pricing to be about the same as a visit to your regular doctor.
