SHERMAN, Texas -- Some funny money is making the rounds in Sherman.

Police remind retailers or anyone dealing in cash to always check for counterfeit bills. Some look so real they will slip through the cracks and end up in ATMs.

"If it just doesn't feel right; if it's smeared in any way; if it's smaller than an actual bill; the best thing to do is get a counterfeit pen and check it," said Sherman police spokesman Sgt. D.M. Hampton.

Sometimes the bills look so real that professionals can't even tell the difference. Hampton said there's one sure-fire way to identify suspicious greenbacks if you have more than one of them.

"If it's counterfeit money, they won't change the serial numbers," the police spokesman said. "Anytime you're doing any cash transactions, make sure you're checking for those things."

Police say they have found no connection between the recent number of counterfeit bills.
