Rufe man assaults mom, shot dead in struggle


CHOCTAW COUNTY, Okla. -- One man is dead after a deadly altercation near Rufe early Tuesday morning.

Choctaw County Sheriff's Department deputies answered the call for help for shortly after 3 a.m. in the 500 block of North 4430 Road.

Deputies said 28-year-old Thomas Brantley Collins was assaulting his mother when her boyfriend pulled a gun and Collins tried to wrestle the gun away from him.

The gun went off, striking and killing Collins, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said that after its agents gathered evidence, no arrests were made. The district attorney will decide whether to file charges.
