SHERMAN, Texas -- There's a new clean-up program on tap for the City of Sherman.  Plans for the Neighborhood Refresh Initiative were set to be unveiled at Monday evening's City Council meeting.

The goal is to take care of homes with unsightly trash or junk in their yards. The city will be using employees already on staff for the program, so there's no extra cost to taxpayers.

The city will soon start getting in touch with homeowners about the plan that will coordinate code enforcement, police, solid waste and animal control departments.

"Hopefully by the time that the program completes in the cycle at the end of next year, we'll have a number of neighborhoods that will be, in fact, in better condition, better shape than they are today," city spokesman Nate Strauch said.

The Neighborhood Refresh Initiative starts this week. It will first target the city's southwest quadrant and will move clockwise around Sherman during the year.
