DENISON, Texas -- A Denison High School student is under arrest after allegedly threatening to kill other students and then himself.

In a written statement, Denison Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Henry Scott said the suspect sent out a group text late Sunday night outlining his threat and "advising students included in the text not to come to school" on Monday.

One recipient of the text message alerted police, who identified the suspect and placed him under arrest.

The student, whose name was not released, was charged with a felony terroristic threat and was placed in custody at the Grayson County Juvenile Detention Center.

“We are extremely thankful for the student who acted quickly and maturely, and informed police about this situation immediately,” Scott said in the statement. “Our students are taught and encouraged to do this in all instances of threats, and we’re very appreciative that this student was willing to step forward and do what was right and vital for the safety of all our students and staff."

Scott added that the district was concerned about the mental health of the student who is alleged to have made the threat.

"We pray that he gets the help he needs,” the superintendent said.
