Ardmore firefighters 'fill the boot' for MDA

ARDMORE, Okla. -- This weekend, the Ardmore Fire Department carried on a tradition that spans more than six decades.

They joined emergency services all around the country for the Muscular Dystrophy Association's "fill the boot" campaign.

Ardmore firefighters blanketed the intersection of Commerce and Broadway on Sunday, taking any donations Ardmoreites could spare -- from loose change to checks.

"We get a lot of positive feedback from everybody about doing this and about the help that we're getting for the people that need it," Capt. John Henry said.

"Fire departments come together and do this in each city and raise thousands of dollars each year," added firefighter Seth Shelton. "It's great to be a part of. It's one of the brotherhood things about the fire department."

The fire department was still tabulating the total for its drive on Saturday and Sunday.

"None of it goes to us, it all goes to the organization," Shelton added.  "We take none of it, it's all for the support."
