AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Some supporters of Donald Trump wore patriotic garb and carried U.S. flags during a Texas rally for the president. The Austin American-Statesman reports hundreds of Trump backers marched through downtown Austin on Saturday as part of a pre-July Fourth celebration of independence. One marcher wore a military uniform in a salute to the nation's first president, George Washington. Another man dressed as Uncle Sam.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Police say a San Antonio officer continues his recovery following surgery after being shot in a gunbattle with a suspect that claimed the life of his partner. Sgt. Sgt. Jesse Salame says Officer Julio Cavazos was hospitalized Saturday in intensive care. Officials say Cavazos was shot Thursday as he and Officer Miguel Moreno stepped out of their patrol car to question a man about a vehicle break-in. Moreno was shot in the head. He died Friday. The gunman died in the shootout.

PALESTINE, Texas (AP) - Police say an East Texas man has been arrested in the fatal shooting of his ex-wife a week after her body was found near a rural road. Palestine police say Andrew Glenn Taylor was being held Saturday on a murder charge. Lt. Gabriel Green says Taylor was arrested Friday at home in Palestine, with bond at $1 million. Green says cellphone coordinates were used in the investigation of the disappearance of Ricki Taylor. She was reported missing June 22. Detectives located her body June 23.

EL PASO, Texas (AP) - A homeless man must serve 60 years in prison for what prosecutors say was his role in the 2014 death of a man whose beaten and burned corpse was found in a vacant El Paso building. Jerry Lynn McGavitt was sentenced Friday in El Paso after being convicted of murder in the death of 21-year-old Gerardo Luna Jr. Prosecutors believe Luna was targeted because he entered the downtown building, where homeless people were known to stay, from a street during the daytime.
