Durant ISD releases air quality test results: mold found, but not harmful

Posted:

DURANT, OK – Thursday Durant school officials released results of an air quality test of their facility. This comes after students walked out in protest last week to push for change.

Students told us mold was growing inside their library and band room causing them breathing problems and other health issues.

Bio Check Corporation conducted a study and found mold inside the high school, including the library that's been closed.

But investigators say the mold is not harmful and the air quality is fine.

“The report showed we have, have had, and continue to have, very good air quality in the high school,” said Duane Merideth, the Durant Superintendent, “which is a concern, and again we wanted to make sure we verified that, thru those who are experts in the field.”

The problem resulted from an air conditioning unit that wasn't balanced putting too much moisture in the air

School officials say that problem has been fixed. Now they'll focus on cleaning up the mold, before they conduct another air quality study.
