String of Car Burglaries has Lone Grove Residents on Edge

LONE GROVE, OK-- Police in Lone Grove are warning people in the area to be on high alert for car break-ins after a string of them in the area.

"There's people coming in and out in the middle of the night and my fear is that next thing they're going to try to come into our houses," Victim Heather Johnson said.

A common fear lately in parts of Lone Grove, as police say they're looking for a group of car burglars.

They tell us, so far break-ins on 18 different streets in town have been reported.

"We've taken quite a bit of auto burglaries and some people have even been hit twice, we need to put a stop to it and find out who's doing it," Chief Robert Oldham said.

As of now, police believe it's a younger group of thieves.

Neighbors we talked to say cash, chargers, and other items including an $800 gun have been stolen in the past few weeks, and they're fed up.

"They were actually backed up to the pop up trailer that we had, they actually cut the chain and the lock on it," Delores Stevens said.

Some victims we talked to say they want to warn those responsible, that they're setting up surveillance and doing more to project their homes and be in the lookout.

"We're fully prepared to protect ourselves" Johnson said.

Police say it's been hard to catch the outlaws, because most victims don't notice items missing until the next day.

"The hitch off of our truck got taken, it's frustrating its really invasive," Becca Gillespie said.

If you have any information on who may be involved in these burglaries, you're urged to call the Lone Grove Police Department.
