Dozens of people forced out of hotel after false alarm

DENISON, TX -- A frustrating night for guests at a local hotel when they were forced out of their rooms.

People staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Denison were evacuated after the fire alarms went off.

Crews are struggling to turn them off Sunday night.

Fire crews say they got a call about a building being on fire, but it ended up being a false alarm.

Meanwhile while they investigate the system, dozens were left waiting for minutes to go back inside.

“Just drove in ten hours from North Missouri, we were here 20 minutes,” said Christopher Bowen, a guest, “my wife had jumped in the shower and just got out and the alarm went off, shut off, stepped out in the hallway and that time the desk clerk had come out and was screaming for everyone to get out."

“We were all in our room, me and my two daughters and we heard the alarm go off,” said Tara Powell, another guest. “We didn't know what was going on so we gathered a few of our things and we took the fire escape things."

The hotel says a total of 40 rooms were evacuated. They say it appears it was an electrical alarm malfunction.
