Denison Council Members approve cutting property taxes

DENISON, TX -- Property owners in Denison will soon pay less on their taxes.

The city says they passed their new budget at Monday’s meeting and they have more money to spend this year.

Instead of paying 65 cents for every 100 dollars in property value, owners will pay 64 cents.

Council members say they have more revenue coming into the city with new businesses in the area re-vamping downtown.

"Grateful that the economy's improved in our area, property values are up,” said Jud Rex, Denison City Manager, “so, not only are we able to do more, but we also decreased the tax rate for the city of Denison."

Council members say the revenue they're seeing from property taxes is already higher than past years because the property value in the city has gone up.
